Samantha Barncastle Salopek

With deep roots in New Mexico, a heart for service, and a tough-as-nails approach to getting things done, Samantha Barncastle Salopek is experienced and ready to fight for New Mexican families, our freedoms, and our resources.

Barncastle Law Firm

Sam graduated from New Mexico State University before getting her law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law. After clerking for the New Mexico Court of Appeals, Sam went to work for law firms focused specifically on water issues in Las Cruces.

Starting her own practice in 2014, Sam now helps farmers, ranchers, and local businesses fight for their water and property rights. Sam’s experience with water resources, agriculture law and economic development issues has carved out a niche for her firm to serve the unique issues of the Southern New Mexico community. Sam also serves as Counsel for the Elephant Butte Irrigation District in the ongoing Supreme Court battle for water in the Rio Grande.

Healthcare and Children

In 2020, Sam gave birth to a daughter with special needs. Through her own experience, Sam realized that too many families go without critical services to help their child or loved one because of how complex and frustrating it is navigating the healthcare system. With the hope that she could make the path for other parents in the same situation a little less turbulent, Sam has fought for changes to the healthcare system and even expanded her law practice to help families with medical challenges like hers, free of charge.

Family

Sam, her husband and two young children enjoy hiking, especially in New Mexico’s National Parks, and working on the Salopek family farm. Sam takes significant pride in coaching her youth basketball team, who are entering their second season together—go Sharks!

Community Involvement

Sam finds every opportunity to serve her community, whether it’s through her legal and agricultural experience, volunteering in the Parent Teacher Organization at her children’s school, or stepping up to be a voice for New Mexico families in Santa Fe as a State Senator.

Samantha Barncastle Salopek will never back down when it comes to fighting for our interests.
